John Mgayambasa is the Company Secretary and Head of Legal at Tanoil Investments Limited, bringing over a decade of experience in legal advisory, contract negotiation, and regulatory affairs in the energy sector. He plays a central role in guiding the company’s legal strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting major investment and infrastructure initiatives.

John has led or supported negotiations on landmark projects, including the Tanzania LNG development and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline. His work has contributed to shaping key national legislation, such as the Tanzania Petroleum Act (2025) and the Oil & Gas Revenue Management Act (2015), reinforcing his reputation as one of the country’s leading legal voices in the oil and gas industry.

He holds a Master’s degree in Tax Law from Queen Mary University of London and a Bachelor of Laws from St. Augustine University of Tanzania. He is a registered advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and a member of both the Tanganyika Law Society and the International Association for Energy Negotiators.
